A BRIDE has been branded “entitled” after her friends were expected to fork out more than £1,000 to attend her hen do.
One pal who has already paid for her flights has now admitted she can’t afford to go – and fears losing her mate over it.
Writing on social media, she said: “I’m due to go on a hen do later in the year which is four days and three night abroad and it’s costing over £1000.
“I’ve only paid for the flight so far and I can accept losing that money but I just don’t think I can afford/justify paying all that money.
“But I’m worried how this will affect my relationship with the bride plus have no idea how to broach the subject.”
The woman, from Scotland, added: “For clarification it’s £650 for flights and accommodation, £200 for transfers and a beach club day then there will be spending money on top of that so well over £10,00.
“Plus, a home hen and the actual wedding that includes an overnight stay as the venue is the middle of nowhere.
“Just a lot of money that I wish I could spend but need to be realistic.”
And the woman has been inundated with support as social media users hit out at “extravagant” bachelorettes.
One fumed: “Incredibly selfish thing to ask people to go abroad for a hen do, especially in this time of austerity.”
A second echoed: “It’s a bit entitled in my opinion. I think you just need to be honest with her, and if she’s a good friend she’ll understand.”
A third wrote: “It always absolutely baffles me that so many people actually expect their friends and family to fork out thousands of pounds (in a cost of living crisis let’s not forget) for THEIR wedding/hen party.
“If the bride has an issue with you not being able to afford it then that’s her problem, no one should expect someone to pay thousands of pounds to celebrate them.”
A fourth chimed in: “People have big expectations of what a hen do should look like and they can become extravagant without always really considering how people will manage this financially.”
Meanwhile, a fifth said: “Insanity tbh. £1,000 and then there’s the wedding and the holiday days etc.
“Explain you can’t afford it and that’s really all there is to it. Can’t get over the selfishness of some people with these ridic hen do’s.”
The gutted hen do member later clarified that it “isn’t the bride demanding all of this”.
She added: “The bridesmaids have been the ones organising it all.
“I’ll just need to say to the bride I can’t afford it as life has changed/gotten more expensive since the flights were booked and its become a lot more than was estimated too.”
